Our Code of Conduct

Cambs doulas….

  • Offer practical & emotional support as well as evidence based information and signposting, where appropriate, to the families they are working with.
  • Are not responsible for the choices made by women/birthing people or accountable for the outcomes of those choices.
  • Provide judgement free support to families whatever their birth choices, feeding choices or parenting style (safeguarding concerns notwithstanding).
  • Work within the framework of the law and Cambs doulas policies. Each doula is responsible for familiarising themselves with these documents.
  • Supports the aims and ethos of Cambs Doulas and does not engage in any activities which may damage its reputation or interests.
  • Work to the highest standard of care and support possible, striving to be sensitive, nurturing, empathic, non-judgemental, knowledge based, reliable, communicative, practical and respectful of the families wishes.
  • Does not perform clinical, midwifery or medical tasks, diagnose medical conditions or give medical advice, whilst working as a doula, even if trained as a health professional.
  • Understand that our core skill set is signposting, listening and practical help and will signpost where necessary to outside resources or specialists if a client’s needs fall outside her remit.
  • Will practice transparency in terms of their education and experience and not mislead clients, other doulas, or professionals.
  • Will be honest and show integrity and respect at all times towards clients, other doulas and other professionals.
  • Will practice full disclosure and inform Cambs Doulas of ANY safeguarding concern that does or could affect her ability to work with children or vulnerable adults. Please see safeguarding policy.
  • Will not discuss personal or confidential information disclosed by their clients in their doula work, without the express permission of their clients, except in situations where there is a legal obligation to do so.
  • Is responsible for their own continued professional development.
  • Will contribute positively and collaboratively to Cambs Doulas and strive to form good working relationships with other members.
  • Understands that Cambs Doulas is not an employer or governing body and cannot provide legal protection or advice.
