Emily Mclaughlin

I’m Emily, founder of Emily Mac Maternal Wellbeing.

I’ve been caring for people since I was 18. From working in a care home, to over 20 years as a mental health nurse, becoming a mum myself, and now supporting families as a doula, one thing has always stayed the same: I love helping people feel safe, supported and cared for during life’s biggest transitions.

As a trained birth and postnatal doula, I support women and their families through pregnancy, birth and the early weeks of parenthood with compassionate, practical and emotionally responsive care. Every family is different, so I tailor my support to what you need, whether that’s preparing for birth, building confidence as a new parent, making sense of a difficult birth experience, or simply having someone alongside you who understands.

Alongside my doula training, I bring more than two decades of mental health nursing experience, including seven years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in a Perinatal Mental Health Team. Supporting women experiencing anxiety, depression, birth trauma, OCD and other emotional challenges during pregnancy and after birth has given me a deep understanding of how transformative the right support can be. It also means I’m particularly passionate about helping women feel emotionally prepared for motherhood, not just practically prepared for birth.

My role isn’t to tell you how to parent. It’s to offer evidence-informed guidance, a listening ear, practical support where it’s needed, and a calm, non-judgemental space where you can be completely yourself. Whether you’re feeling excited, uncertain, overwhelmed or all of those at once, you don’t have to navigate it alone.
