Shannon Whitlock
If you’re neurodivergent, planning a VBAC or both, I support women and birthing people in and around Cambridgeshire who want extra support and guidance as they navigate the maternity system.
More about me
I’m Shannon and I’m a mum to four beautiful neurodivergent kids. I’m also married to a wonderful ADHD man and I’m AuDHD myself. To say I have some experience in neurodivergence would be an understatement!
My journey into motherhood began with a beautiful pregnancy but after an induction, my birth turned into a caesarean. 2 years later, I had another “semi emergency” caesarean and 4 years after that, right at the beginning of the COVID lockdown, I had my third caesarean. I had lasting mental trauma from that experience. So much so, that when I fell pregnant for the fourth time, I vowed that I would do everything in my power to get a VBA3C. And I did.
My experience with both neurodivergence and VBAC has led me to want to support ND pregnant women and birthing people as well as those who are planning a VBAC. I’ve completed courses with The VBAC Hub & ND Birth to strengthen my knowledge in both of these areas.
I’m based in Huntingdon and I cover anywhere within an hour (ish) of my home. I also offer ND & VBAC preparation sessions as well as virtual support if having someone else in your birth space is a bit overwhelming!
My approach to doula support is very flexible. I’m aware that it’s not a one size fits all approach, especially when it comes to ND individuals, so I am always open to have a discussion about what’s included.
To give you some idea of what I can offer as a doula, here’s some of the ways I can support you:
– Up to 4 antenatal sessions
– Birth planning
– Partner support
– Appointment preparation
– On call from 38+4 – 42 weeks
– Attendance at your birth
– Breastfeeding peer support (if this is how you want to feed)
– One in person postnatal visit
– Six weeks WhatsApp support
If you resonate with anything I’ve said, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I would love to hear from you!
